Tesco, the United Kingdom’s largest mass merchant, is ramping up its music operations by rolling out CD sales to its petrol stations. U.K. dance band Faithless is to be the first and, for the time being, sole beneficiary of the month-long trial promotion with 420 U.K. Tesco petrol forecourts set to stock the veteran electronic act’s latest studio album. Bet they didn’t know that before they signed the deal.

HMV Fashion

Retailer HMV will start selling fashion lines in 40 or so of its UK largest stores in an effort to tap into the crossover between music and fashion. The likes of Lee Jeans and Boxfresh will be in all of the outlets, with the flagship store on London’s Oxford Street also carrying clothes by Rocawear, the label founded by US rapper Jay-Z.

Apple’s Game Center

Apple announced tonight that it will release the new version of its iOS software, iOS 4.1, to consumers next week. Besides bug fixes, the new version includes new features like HD video uploads over Wi-Fi, and something called High Dynamic Range photos, to improve iOS users’ snaps.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet last month held a series of online live concerts to promote its Rockbjörnen Music Awards, giving away 140,000 free tickets to music fans around the world. Bands performed live from the Aftonbladet studios, with the gigs streamed live online on the dedicated website via unique fan access codes.
