Premiere: RR Perkins – Process

Videos

RR Perkins’ third volume of sparkling, fun-sized psych-pop gems totally knocked our socks off last month, so it’s with great pleasure that we bring you the premiere of his brand new video. Starring drag queen Ann Artist, ‘Process’ is a woozy, multi-layered document packed with plenty of subtle detail; much like the music in fact.

“The entire pacing & flow of ‘Process’ reminds me of the ‘bell-curve’ trajectory of a creative ritual, hence the title,” RR Perkins explains. “You clear your mind through some activity (for me: silence, coffee and solo piano does the trick), ideas slowly trickle in, those shapes create a mood (however conscious) and next thing you know, you’re off somewhere else for a short peak. It’s like walking around aimlessly but having a destination in mind you weren’t aware of all along. In a short time, the euphoria wears off and you’re left with an easy but fleeting feeling. James [Dream, director] understood this – and I think this is what he, Ann [Artist], and Katie [Ross, stylist] were trying to articulate in this video.”

Articulate it they most certainly have. As for RR Perkins, the next product of his own creative process will hopefully be with us soon in the form of Volume IV. From what we’ve heard, expect g-funk and folk-inspired hooks to be added into the blissful mix (we’re only half-joking). Can’t wait…
