Last year Indiana five-piece Murder By Death managed to score the fourth largest music-related Kickstarter of 2012, raising a tidy, if not quite Amanda Palmer-bothering, $187,047 – almost double their original target. Presumably they’ve pumped at least some of that cash into this charming animated short for ‘Lost River’, one of the best tracks from last year’s ‘Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon’ LP.

A beautifully-concocted if somewhat morbid tale of doomed romance, it sees two lost lovers eventually reunited…although unfortunately only after they’ve drowned. Love, eh? Features some fantastic textures and a bittersweet theme; much, in fact, like the song itself…

Drop Out Venus - Death is Screaming
Drop Out Venus were incendiary when we saw them at the Bussey Building a few weeks ago, and they bring that same madcap enthusiasm to this video for their new single 'Death is Screaming'. Straight-jacketed singer Iva Moskovich leads a motley crew of weirdos out of local art space The Deptford Project and into the surrounding streets, to the bemused stares of passers-by. Musically there are hints of Le Tigre, only with bizarre lyrics about wrestling alligators and hustling whales, while the track leaps from place to place in unpredictable fashion right up to the abrupt ending (cued by the amusingly ironic yell: "fade out!"). Visually it recalls one of our favourite videos of the last year, Francobollo's amazing 'Basketball', which can only be a good thing...
