Hilco, the restructuring firm that bought HMV’s debt last week, is reported to be aiming to keep over a hundred HMV shops open, roughly half the existing premises. Apparently the eight-bank syndicate representing HMV turned down higher offers than Hilco’s, so you presume they’ve got a decent plan up their sleeves. Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis is sniffing around, despite having previously tweeted that the retailer “had no reason to exist anymore”…

Ludovico Einaudi Sets Chart Record
Classical music has been the slowest genre to adjust to the "digital revolution", with listeners stubbornly continuing to hoover up CDs and records instead of plugging themselves into iTunes. Ludovico Einaudi seems to have broken through the barrier however, with his 'In A Time Lapse' becoming the first classical release to sell more digital than physical copies (by some distance actually, with a 72/28 split). “Einaudi’s impressive achievement is also a perfect illustration of the coming of age of digital classical music,” reckons Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s MD, although there's a good chance that it's Einaudi's crossover appeal that has led to him writing 13 of the tracks in the current Classical Top 20. Still, it's an excuse to listen to the gorgeous track above, so bravo Ludovico!
