Janelle Monae

Spotlight

She came over to the UK on a wave of critical acclaim and huge backing, and showed us why! At Shepherd Bush Empire the other night we may have seen the start of a MASSIVE star over here. She has already made the NME Cools List (has to be one of the most shameful and pointless lists in music) and produced an inspiring performance on Jools Holland.

Janelle Monae really captures the whole essence of musical entertainment and not only creates some intelligent pop music allowing her to be dubbed the new Prince, but she is all dancing all singing act, with all musicians perfectly put together and flowing taken a leaf out of old soul and swing bands. Her version of RnB goes back to its roots, with horns galore, but with modern production and huge energy.
