Premiere: ‘Vertyko’ by TRUE

Spotlight

A pair of classically-trained Swiss jazz musicians, holed up in a fallout shelter in Bern, on a mission to create the purest, most effervescent pop music known to man. Think they sound too good to be true? Well you’d be wrong because they are, quite literally, TRUE (see what we did there?). And today The Monitors are proud to present the premiere of a new track, ‘Vertyko’, from their forthcoming EP, Videos, released on March 3rd on Mouthwatering Records.

The duo, Dani and Rico, chose their moniker after realising that their lyrics had an uncanny knack of coming true, although considering their commitment to portraying the spectrum of human emotion in unflinchingly honest style, perhaps that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. As for the music, the duo utilise both live and programmed drums, mixing elements of synth-pop and RnB into a sparkling, addictive whole, where the sleek futurism of AlunaGeorge meets the catchy bounce of Little Dragon. The rapid-fire rhythms and sugary melodies of ‘Vertyko’ are particularly ear-catching, like the musical equivalent of a day-glo rainbow beaming over Tokyo. If TRUE carry on like this, they’ll surely be experiencing a fair bit of vertigo in the pop world themselves…

UPDATE: TRUE have now put up the video for ‘Vertyko’, and it’s a one-take banger. Have a gander below…
