Writhing bodies, slippery with sweat, moving against each other in an increasingly frenzied rhythm as they approach mutual ecstasy with total abandon…that’s the way everyone wants to spend Valentine’s Day. However, assuming you’re a hideous, unloveable wretch, a similar experience awaits you at Village Underground, only with a bloke bellowing instructions at you (and more synths).

For a visual idea of what a Dan Deacon gig is like, take a look at the last bit of his recent video for ‘Guildford Avenue Bridge’ below (it may be sped up, but it tends to feel like things really are happening at that pace). Leave your attitude at the door though; as he told me in a recent interview: “It only takes one dickhead to ruin a party”…

A chance to see former Stereolab singer Lætitia Sadier in intimate surroundings this Thursday, as she plays The Water Rats in Kings Cross with a healthy support bill put together by Symptomatic Presents. Despite well-received collaborations with Mouse On Mars and Deerhunter off-shoot Atlas Sound, Sadier admitted to uncertainty as to whether people would care about second solo album "Silencio": "I didn’t know if anyone would want to put out my record or if anyone would be interested. But now it feels very good and I’m looking forward to playing shows again. And I’m curious to see how I am welcomed by people. It’s been a while, so I hope they welcome me." We're pretty sure they will, and London post-rock 3-piece The Enters should also be guaranteed a warm reception - their formidable, fuzz-drenched songs may suggest a lot of time spent shoe-gazing, but their sights are set firmly upwards...
