I only just saw this artist at the Macbeth supporting the fantastic Out Of The Afternoon. I had to be very rude to the people I was talking to upstairs and came down and stared intensively for 20 minutes. I was absolutely struck in awe of such refreshing music. She performed on her own that day but she also has a band, as seen in this great video from BBC introducing.

Taking their name from the brilliant Pavement song Grave Architecture, this quartet that have many disguises and appear together in other bands such as the Christmas Gang, Gold Sounds, After the Fox and probably some others that I am unaware of. In a nutshell, Wailing Wall is the avent-folk mash of multi-instrumentalist Jesse Rifkin, the son of a pair of west coast hippies who had met at a Siddha Yoga ashram in Cali. This heritage was mixed with his Jewish roots and, when related to his music, as an influence, has really generated something quite unique, and really rather good..... READ ON.....
Its been while since we heard from Mr Manuva. Now he has joined forces with a producer by the name of WrongTom to release a new project entitled Duppy Writer. The album features reworked tunes from Roots lengthy back catalogue with each track covering a different era of reggae. In true Roots style the album is filled with (admittedly electronic) dub reggae vibes of the highest order. And despite the nature of the material there is a freshness that makes it better than merely a remix album.
Now here something really cool – ‘Girl Crisis’ an all-female troupe with a twist. The idea behind it was to a) name themselves as a joke on Boy Crisis b) exist only in web-video form featuring c) an essentially revolving cast of indie Brooklyn sirens that d) have nothing for sale and will not play live shows but e) are a “long-term” project that records covers of classic songs. All songs are preformed in a Greenpoint living room of one of the singers on Super 8mm camera. Wicked!
One of our favourite bands this year – they cant be called a new band as this is their second album, but it sounds so fresh. Amazing rockabilly and to huge critical acclaim. I saw them on a very small stage a few week for a launch at the Levi’s store, and I cant wait to see them on the great stage at the great venue that is the Luminaire. Bursting out from all side this will be an explosive live show!

With amazing support from John & Jehn and Mary Epworth and The Jubilee Band.
Plus a DJ set from Django Django
it is going to be one hell of a celebration!!
