Valium-gaze: a term (probably) never before used to describe a band’s music, but the best way to truly encapsulate the sound that emanates from Whistlejacket. And new single ‘Melt’ is ever congruous with their psychedelic paradigm. The London 5-piece fuse hypnotic Slowdive haziness with a jangly Ride rhythm section, and ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ style lead guitar riff-age. This celestial-symphony, combined with murky-reverb-vocals so warm that they ‘Melt’, is truly a formula for some serious Shoegaze goodness. And although they wear their influences on their tie-dyed sleeves, they master the sound with the pedal-clicking worthiness of ‘the scene that celebrate[d] itself’.

Having played a string of pretty awesome support slots for the likes of Yuck, Splashh and The Orwells, plus confirmed a slot at this year’s Liverpool Psych Fest, The relative newcomers seem to be doing alright for themselves.

Keep your peepers out for secret guerilla-style shows in their subterranean practice space. For now though, why not grab a free download of ‘Melt’ via their Bandcamp, and have a gander at the recent video for ‘March Hare’ below…
