Rough Trade may have posted a 25% increase in sales last quarter, but they’re hardly resting on their laurels. The shop’s latest idea is to launch a loyalty card offering an accompanying download with every purchase made. While this is fairly common with new vinyl releases and items bought online, in Rough Trade it will apply to offline purchases too, with tills linked to customer’s online accounts. However, as clever as this all is, you expect they’ll eventually have to offer something else, like an actual discount or points scheme, if they want take up of their loyalty card to really explode….

Rough Trade Sees Sales Grow by 25%
Excellent news just prior to Record Store Day (and a nice antidote to the HMV palaver): Rough Trade Shops' sales grew by a sweet quarter this last, um, quarter. Indeed, apparently they've posted a double-figure increase every year since they opened Rough Trade East in 2007. Will sales rocket ever further after they open their new shop in New York later this year? You wouldn't bet against it.
