The Walkmen have been around since 2000, when they formed as a kind of amalgamation of two bands, Jonathan Fire*Eater and The Recoys and based themselves in good old NYC. They all grew up together in and around washington, so go back a long way.
A hardworking pack of lads who, according to their wiki page, prefer the sound of vintage equipment like the upright piano, you’ll hear the retro sounds in this track with its morricone lilt and loose horn harmonies.
Its been great year for the Walkmen and things are ramping up for the release of their new album in September with live dates at ATP and the Reading Festival. Now all they have to do is decide which of the 28 recordings are going to appear on the album, to be released by Fat Possum records.
Combining deep 60s psychedelic grooves with the minimal looping work recently found within work by the likes of Walls and Caribou, Django Django come along and add a hint of spice to the sound.
